Celtic to face PSV or Galatasaray in tough Champions League showdown if they beat Midtjylland

Celtic will face top opposition in the next stage of the Champions League if they progress past Midtjylland.

Ange Postecoglou ’s side face the Danes in the second qualifying round – with the opening leg on Tuesday night.

But should they beat Midtjylland over the two legs, they would then take on the winners of PSV vs Galatasaray for a place in the playoff.

The Turkish giants last featured in the group stage two seasons ago but failed to win a game before losing to Rangers in the Europa League play-off last season. Dutch big guns PSV, meanwhile, were last in the tournament proper in season 2018/19.

Celtic will have to be at their best and need more players in if they are to improve their chances of reaching their first group stage in UEFA’s elite competition for three years.

Should the former European Cup winners fail to overcome Midtjylland, they would then be parachuted into the Europa League playoff round.

There they would take on Czech side FK Jablonec.

Celtic would take on either PSV or Galatasaray on August 3/4, with the second leg coming one week later on August 10.
