Celtic thumping was a Tannadice horror show as shambolic Dundee United labelled 'a disgrace' - Hotline

After being limp against Livi, annihilated in Alkmaar, terrorised at Tynecastle, spanked by St Mirren, it’s now another horror show against the Hoops.

In the space of five games Dundee United have shipped 24 goals to leave Jack Ross looking at one of the most disastrous sequences ever recorded by a major Scottish club. And there was little sympathy on the Hotline after Celtic demolished them in Dundee.

Gavin MacLeod, Renfrew , said: “Dundee United continue to be a shambles. It’s fine to be beaten, even outplayed, by either side of the Old Firm - but the tools were down before the half time pies were even warmed. Jack Ross might end up being one of the SPFLs shortest ever tenures." Bill McLellan, Cumbria , added: “Dundee United are nothing short of a disgrace. Hard to believe this club reached the European Cup semis and the UEFA Cup final under wee Jim McLean.

“Humiliated in Europe, now the same in the league. Celtic were disappointed they didn't hit double figures but United should be relieved it wasn't a dozen or more! This mob would struggle to reach the Ayrshire Cup semi.”

But Celtic fan Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton , was overjoyed with Ange Postecoglou’s team after Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada both hit trebles, saying: “I believed that Brendan Rodgers had brought the most exciting brand of football seen in years at Celtic but after witnessing that breathtaking display yesterday I’ve changed my mind. Ange Postecoqlou has again sent out the message that Celtic are the benchmark in Scottish football and our speed merchants up front will be too much to handle for Rangers next week.”

Jim McSorley, Bothwell , added: “In 30-plus years of watching Celtic I've never seen such a complete performance by the Hoops. Passing, power, pace and a relentlessness like never seen before. Angeball 2.0 has me licking my lips for the season ahead. Who knows what will be ahead? Maybe a 10-0 or a perhaps Madrista shaped scalp in September?”

There’s still at least eight weeks until the SPFL flick the switch on VAR and judging by the way the new season has started, that means another eight weeks of punters taking pops at officials. Don Robertson is the latest whistler to feel the heat after missing James Sands’ rugby tackle on Jordy Hiwula as Rangers overcame that moment of controversy to thump Ross County.

Paul Conner said: “The Rangers support moaning about Willie Collum at Easter Road will no doubt not utter a peep about Saturday’s decision at Ibrox. It was a blatant red-card offence missed by the ref whilst the game was goalless! Another ‘honest mistake’!”

Paul McArdle, Gourock , added: “Don Robertson continuously refuses to red card Rangers players for blatant red-card offences. This guy needs investigated because he literally would let Rangers away with murder.”

But Bluenose John Bruce reckons the Sands incident was not the only big call Robertson failed to spot: “Once again, the talking point after a great game is the poor refereeing decisions, rather than the game itself.

“Ross County will feel aggrieved at not seeing Rangers go down to 10 men after James Sands' clumsy challenge. But Rangers also had a valid penalty claim denied, whilst two players suffered a clear elbow to the face - both red card offences and both unpunished.”

Antonio Colak was the hero of the day at Ibrox as the clinical Croatian made it seven goals in his last seven games with a deadly double to down the Staggies. A lan McGaw, Alloa , said: “Well done Rangers another win with special mention to Colak who has now scored seven goals in the past month.

"He’s a real poacher and he reminds me of an early Ally McCoist. Alfredo Morelos knows now he’s got a fight on his hands.”

Meanwhile, Hibs fan Neil Renton, Edinburgh , failed to see the funny side of his team’s defeat to St Mirren: “Does someone want to tell Lee Johnson that’s the Edinburgh Fringe pretty much over so he can cut out Hibs comedy results? We’re fast becoming the laughing stock of Scottish football."
