Celtic test welcomed by Motherwell winger as he eyes cup upset

Motherwell have been handed a tough test in their quest to reach the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals after being handed a last eight tie at home to Celtic, but winger Stuart McKinstry welcomes the challenge.

And the 19-year-old says if the Steelmen are serious about winning silverware they will ‘need to beat the best sides at some point.’

The Fir Park side will play host to Ange Postecoglou’s Premiership leaders on Wednesday, October 19 in a match which will be televisied live on the sponsors' channel.

McKinstry made his Motherwell debut in the game that got them there, coming on as a late substitute in a 4-0 win over Inverness in the last 16.

And giving his reaction to what stands between 'Well and a Hampden semi-final, he said: “You’ve got to play them [Celtic] at some point so why that make it early and at home?

“I think there is no better team to come here and play right now.

"They are obviously in good form at the moment, but I think as a team we will be ready for them when the time comes.

“It’s still a wee while away so we’ve got more time to work as a team and get the new players bedded in more.

“I’m ready for it and hopefully it can turn out to be a good night for us.”
