Celtic team vs Aberdeen predicted as Neil Lennon sticks to his word with Stephen Welsh

Stephen Welsh will be hoping Neil Lennon will stick to his word and the defender will regain his spot in Celtic's starting XI against Aberdeen.

The centre-half was stretchered off in the 4-0 win over St Mirren a week ago and missed the victory over St Johnstone at the weekend with an ankle injury.

But the injury was not as bad as first feared and the youngster will be available for selection as Celtic face the Dons on Wednesday night.

Lennon gave him assurances he would not lose his spot after an impressive string of performances since the New Year.

He said: "He has done very well. We have been very pleased with him and he is a good kid. Hopefully, he won’t miss any games. If he does he will be back in the squad as soon as possible because he has earned it.”

Celtic should revert to their 4-4-2 diamond formation with Albian Ajeti returning to the side after he was given a rest in Perth.

Lennon should start Scott Bain in goals with a back four of Jonjoe Kenny, Kris Ajer, Greg Taylor and Welsh, if he is fully fit.

Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, David Turnbull and Ryan Christie would be an effective midfield four, while Odsonne Edouard, who notched his 19th and 20th goals of the season against the Saints, should partner Ajeti up top.

Predicted Celtic XI vs Aberdeen: Bain, Kenny, Ajer, Welsh, Taylor, Brown, McGregor, Turnbull, Christie, Edouard, Ajeti.
