Celtic target Victor Wanyama breaks silence on failed transfer from Spurs

Celtic hero Victor Wanyama has broken his silence over his failed transfer from Spurs to Club Brugge in the summer.

The two sides had agreed a £13.6million fee for the midfielder, but a move failed to materialise.

And Wanyama has now opened up about his failed move to the Belgian side and admitted he was disappointed it never went ahead.

Neil Lennon admitted he was interested in his former midfielder during the summer and revealed he could move again for the player who has reportedly been transfer-listed by Mauricio Pochettino.

He told All Africa : "For me, I am a professional player and sometimes you have to wait until everything is done.

“Things were good but unfortunately the transfer didn’t happen.

“But I have to put my head down and work hard in training to be back on top form. I will keep working and wait for my chance in the team.”

Lennon confirmed that the Parkhead side were also interested in signing the Kenyan midfielder in the transfer window.

The Northern Irishman said last month he could come back in for Wanyama in January after Spurs reportedly declared him available for transfer.

He said: "There was interest but it never got off the ground.

"Could we look at it again in January? We'll have to wait and see.

"We might not want to with the balance of the squad now, as well as the affordability."

Wanyama spent two seasons at Celtic , winning two league titles and the  Scottish Cup  before moving to Southampton.

He joined Spurs in 2016, but has played just 24 minutes of Premier League football this season across two substitute appearances.
