Celtic target Daizen Maeda sets lofty career goals as Parkhead switch reaches 'final stages'

Ambitious Daizen Maeda is targeting more success after winning the J-League top goalscorer race.

The 24-year-old is in the form of his life and hit the net 23 times to help Yokohama Marinos finish best of the rest behind runaway champions Kawasaki Frontale.

A report in Japan states a potential switch to Celtic is now in the 'final stages', with both a permanent deal and a loan-to-buy mooted with the Premiership side.

It comes with Ange Postecoglou keen on two more Japanese stars in Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate - with all three tipped to arrive when the January transfer window opens.

And now the jet-heeled striker is targeting even more success in the coming years as he looks to build upon his breakout season.

Writing on social media, he said: "Thank you for all your support this season!

"Thanks to our fans, team-mates, staff, and everyone involved in Marinos, we were able to win the top scorer and the best eleven.

"Thank you very much. Not satisfied with this, I will continue to run like myself."

Maeda knows Postecoglou well due to their time together at Marinos and he is an international team-mate of Kyogo Furuhashi, who he has waxed lyrical about in the past.
