Celtic suffer ruthless Real Madrid wrath as Los Blancos hit Hoops for six in UEFA Youth League romp

Real Madrid thrashed Celtic 6-0 in a difficult UEFA Youth League defeat for the young Hoops side.

Former Parkhead defender Stephen McManus watched on as his team were dismantled by a clinical Los Blancos side who did not pity their hosts who were reduced to 10 men after Ben McPherson's red card early in the first half. It was 2-0 before that point though through Pol Fortuny and Youssef Enriquez strikes.

Juan Garcia and Nicolas Paz Martinez made it four for Real Madrid before half-time at Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium, with the artificial surface in North Lanarkshire struggling to cope with a biblical downpour of rain. It didn't get much better in the second half with a fifth away goal added just four minutes into proceedings, Martinez making his tally for the day a brace. Cesar Perez also got in on the act to cap off a tough outing for the Celtic starlets.

It was a harsh introduction to the tournament for the young Hoops, who will also play Shakhtar Donetsk and RB Leipzig in this section.

Their next match is against Shakhtar next week. This group mirrors the senior Champions League section where Ange Postecoglou's team are also back on Europe's elite stage.

Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid team are the task at Parkhead tonight and Celtic will be keen to avoid a fate like their youngsters against one of the world's best teams.
