Celtic suffer Mat Ryan blow as Ange Postecoglou misses out on goalkeeping target

Celtic are set to miss out on Mat Ryan with the goalkeeper closing in on a move to Spain.

The Brighton stopper had been a target for Ange Postecoglou ahead of the new campaign after they worked together at Australia.

The new Celtic boss had Ryan as his first choice keeper and took him to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

But now the Daily Record report that Celtic are unlikely to get him with Real Sociedad about to complete his signing.

It appears the move will be an initial loan deal with an option to buy if he impresses at the club.

Postecoglou has made one signing since joining the club with Sheffield Wednesday defender Osaze Urgoghide signing on a free.

He now has around two weeks to get new signings in ahead of their Champions League qualifier with FC Midtjylland.

They currently have a choice between Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard for the goalkeeping jersey but none of the trio impressed massively during a disappointing campaign last year.

Barkas cost the club £5m when he joined from AEK Athens and could be afforded another opportunity to impress.

Ryan was also once a former Rangers target but pulled out of a trial because of uncertainty over the club’s future in 2012.
