Celtic suffer injury blow as Neil Lennon confirms key man a 'doubt' for Motherwell clash

Ryan Christie is a doubt for Celtic’s Premiership clash with Motherwell after suffering an ankle knock, according to manager Neil Lennon.

The attacking midfielder rolled his ankle in the midweek win over Kilmarnock and was replaced by Moi Elyounoussi for the final 20 minutes.

The Hoops went on to record a 4-0 success courtesy of an Odsonne Edouard double in between strikes from Scott Brown and Albian Ajeti.

But it has now come at a double cost, with the Swiss forward facing an SFA disciplinary charge over an alleged dive to win the Parkhead side a penalty and Christie’s injury, which will likely see him miss the visit of Graham Alexander’s side.

Ryan Christie is a big doubt, he’s rolled his ankle,” Lennon told his pre-match press conference.

“We’ll give him as long as we can, but yeah he is a big doubt for tomorrow.”

Opponents Motherwell picked up back-to-back wins for the first time since appointing Graham Alexander to replace Stephen Robinson in the dugout with their victory over Dundee United on Wednesday.

And Lennon refused to overlook the Fir Park outfit after they edged themselves away from the relegation zone as Celtic look to bounce back from their shock home defeat to St Mirren last weekend.

"They've changed their set-up a little bit, tweaked it a little bit, and certainly defensively at set plays they look a little bit more organised,” he said.

“They've gone from man-marking to zonal, so he's just tweaked little things here and there.

"He [Alexander] has a decent squad of players, and their front three could be a handful for anybody in this division."
