Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard suffered injury time heartache after Holland sent France crashing out of the European Under-21 Championship in their quarter final clash.
The Hoops frontman was off the park when the Dutch netted the last-gasp goal after he was replaced by Nice frontman Amine Gouiri with 14 minutes left.
L’Espoirs had taken a first half lead through Bayern Munich bound Dayot Upamecano in Budapest but that was cancelled out by AZ Alkmaar striker Myron Boadu who then struck his second at the death.
It means Hoops hitman Edouard’s France Under-21 career has ended in disappointment after firing his way into the record books as his country’s top scorer at that level with 17 goals.
Edouard will now look to make the step up to the full team under Didier Deschamps with the 23-year-old expected to leave Parkhead this summer in a bid to to make that progression.
The former PSG striker has been linked with a string of clubs with Leicester City the favourites to land him with Brendan Rodgers a huge admirer after taking him to Celtic in a record £9 million move.
Edouard could also get the chance to shine at international level if he travels to the Tokyo Olympics this summer with the striker expected to get a call up by Sylvain Ripoll, his current Under-21 boss.
And if he does stay on at Celtic then taking part in that tournament could see him miss up to four Champions League qualifiers.
Edouard is entering the final 12 months of his deal and, after a disappointing season by his standards last term, is believed to be looking for a fresh challenge.
