Celtic steal march on Arsenal, Leicester City and Tottenham in race for Scotland youth star

Talented teenager Kyle Joseph is closing in on a summer switch to Celtic, according to reports.

The 19-year-old has been one of the shining lights in an otherwise dismal season for Wigan Athletic in League One, netting five times for the relegation-threatened Latics.

The Scotland youth cap smashed home his first senior hat-trick in a 4-3 win over Burton Albion in December and has attracted the attention of Premier League heavyweights including Arsenal, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, The Hoops are now in pole position to sign the young forward to add to their summer rebuild after luring Liam Shaw away from Sheffield Wednesday.

The Daily Mail reports the Parkhead side has won the race for the attacker on a pre-contract agreement, the same deal that saw them secure a move for versatile teenager Shaw.

Wigan have offered the young prospect a new contract, meaning they would be entitled to some form of compensation if a move materialises.

But cross border rules mean the Parkhead side will pay significantly less than their English counterparts should they go on to seal his signature.

Celtic allowed forward Cameron Harper to complete a move to New York Red Bulls on Friday, despite the 19-year-old being handed a first team debut earlier this year.

The American youth international has failed to make another senior appearance for the Parkhead club since starting the 1-1 draw with Hibernian in February.
