He’s claiming his corner kick as a goal – but Airdrie’s Kerr McInroy says treacherous conditions played their part in his second Diamonds strike.
The on-loan Celtic midfielder whipped in a corner during last week’s match against Montrose, which with the aid of torrid wet and windy conditions, curled all the way into the net.
It wasn’t to be a happy ending for the Diamonds though as Montrose eventually ran out 2-1 winners in the crucial clash at the top end of the League One table.
Airdrie are fourth after the weekend’s match with Queen’s Park was postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the club.
McInroy said of his corner: “I’ll say I did mean it, but I didn’t really. I tried to put the goalkeeper under a bit of pressure as the conditions were horrible.
“I will definitely take it. That’s my first goal like that and I used the wind as much as I could. I was surprised the game was on - the conditions were really, really bad.”
McInroy’s loan at Airdrie expires next month, which means there’s a decision on his future to be made.
The 21-year-old has previously confirmed his long-term future beyond the expiry of his Celtic contract this summer won’t be at Parkhead.
But when it comes to what’s happening in the short-term, McInroy isn’t sure due to how focused he’s been on playing.
He explained: “I’ve not really had a think about what comes next over the next few weeks to be honest. But I probably should start thinking about what I am going to do.
“However, I’ve not had a chance yet. I am just taking each game as it comes. I’ll assess things week by week as right now, I am just enjoying playing my football again.
“It’s tough to do that (thinking about the future) when the games are coming thick and fast. One game passes you by and you’re straight onto the next one.”
McInroy has been a regular for Murray since his arrival towards the end of the loan window in the Autumn, starting eight consecutive league matches.
And he netted his first goal for the club last month in their 3-1 win over Peterhead.
Airdrie’s promotion push is ongoing in League One, and while different from his surroundings at Celtic, the he says he’s enjoying Diamonds life.
He added: “It is good. It’s enjoyable. Consistency is the main thing. You have to be playing every week.
“You need to show people what you can do and you can only do that by being on the pitch.
“It’s better to be on the pitch than not. I’ve only been in for eight or nine games but I feel as though I have been here for ages already. I have really enjoyed it.
“We have been doing well but we have also had a couple of disappointing results recently. We are looking to continue pushing upwards.
“Coming from Celtic, the training and things like that is obviously different, but it is still enjoyable here at Airdrie.
“It’s a good group of boys which is the main thing. I enjoy it every day.”
