Celtic star's Covid-19 breach sees Scottish Government warn they could PAUSE season

The Scottish Government has warned football clubs the season could be PAUSED after Celtic star Boli Bolingoli admitted breaching coronavirus rules.

Our national game has been rocked by two positive Covid-19 tests at Premiership side Aberdeen last week, where a total of eight players have been forced to self-isolate after a night out at a city centre pub.

And last night it was revealed Bolingoli did not enter a mandatory 14-day quarantine after travelling to Spain last week.

The defender played in Celtic's 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock on Sunday and the Hoops have launched an investigation.

Bolingoli has since apologised for the "major error of judgement" but it could have serious ramifications for all Scottish Premiership clubs, including Hamilton Accies and Motherwell, with the Scottish Government warning it could be forced to call a halt to the season as a result of the recent breaches.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon already issued a warning to football clubs last week in the wake of the 'Aberdeen 8' breaching guidelines.

A spokesperson said: "The Scottish Government is aware of reports of a Celtic FC player having broken quarantine rules last week.

"We are currently in discussion with the club and football governing bodies to establish the facts.

"If confirmed as another serious incident within Scottish football, where protocols have been breached at the risk of wider public health, then the Scottish Government will have little choice but to consider whether a pause is now needed in the resumption of the game in Scotland."
