Celtic star rewarded with bumper new deal

Celtic star Stephen Welsh has signed a new four-year contract extension that ties him to the Parkhead club until at least the summer of 2025.

The 21-year-old centre-back from Coatbridge has been with Celtic for well over 10 years, having progressed through the youth academy ranks and into the first-team squad.

Welsh made his debut in a 4-1 win at Hamilton in February 2020 and scored his first goal in a 2-1 win over Motherwell on February 6.

He quickly became a regular in the first team, playing against the likes of AC Milan and Lille in this season's UEFA Europa League campaign.

Welsh told Celtic TV: "I'm delighted to get it done and I'm here for another four years, which is the perfect scenario for me.

"I've been getting a consistent run of regular games since the Christmas period there.

"For me, it's just about keeping that up, keep doing it, keep playing well until the end of the season."
