Celtic star Olivier Ntcham targeted by West Brom as French sides circle midfielder

West Bromwich Albion have made a bid to lure Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham to the English Premier League in January, according to reports.

The 24-year-old former Manchester City prospect has been a long-term target for a number of clubs in England and France since joining the Parkhead side in 2017.

Sky Sports reported Celtic knocked back a deadline day bid by Ligue 1 club Stade Brestois for his services in October.

However, struggling West Brom - thrashed 5-0 at home by Leeds United in midweek - appear to have jumped to the head of the queue after an initial approach before the winter transfer window opens on January 2.

Sky reporter Anthony Joseph claimed several clubs in Ntcham's native France are also keeping tabs on the situation, but no formal bids have been received for the midfielder as yet.

City paid around €1 million to bring Ntcham to England from French club Le Havre as a teenager, however he never made a professional appearance for the club and was sent on loan to Genoa in Italy between 2015 and 2017.

He impressed enough during that spell for Celtic to part with a reported £4.5m fee, becoming a firm fixture in the side under Brendan Rodgers.

However, he has found a first team place harder to pin down under Neil Lennon this season and was left out of the squad that beat Dundee united 3-0 at Parkhead on Wednesday evening.

David Turnbull and Ismaila Soro have been promoted to starting positions in midfield over the last month, leaving Ntcham on the sidelines with 18 months left on his Celtic deal.

The Hoops may choose to cash in should they receive a reasonable offer from Sam Allardyce's side.
