Celtic star Liel Abada picks up injury on international duty

Liel Abada has picked up an injury while on international duty with Israel.

Celtic will be hopeful they won't lose another key player to the treatment table.

The winger pulled up at the end of a training session with his national team with a quad injury.

He will now miss his side's Euro 2024 qualifier against Romania tomorrow and will be sent for a scan to discover what damage has been done.

Israel manager Alon Hazan said: “He felt a pinch in his muscle.”

Abada recently signed a new long-term contract at Celtic after Brendan Rodgers convinced the 21-year-old to commit his future in Glasgow.

After agreeing on the deal, he said: "I’m really happy to sign the new contract.

"Now we have a target for this season and we’re looking forward.

"The most important thing for me is to improve every day and in every game. I want to get better for the team to achieve our targets.

“Every time I score for this club is really amazing. To score in Celtic Park is always special and the atmosphere is amazing.

"Hopefully I can show more this season for everyone and I will try and get better for the team.

"Every time you play at a club like Celtic you have a lot of great players and a lot of competition."

Meanwhile, Jota has been left in football limbo after it was revealed a loan move to Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq collapsed at the last minute because of red tape.

The former Celtic ace was left out of new club Al-Ittihad's list of players for the league because of a limit to the amount of foreign players in their squad.

It's the latest setback for the Portuguese winger, who has had a nightmare start to his career in Saudi Arabia following his incredible £25 million move from Celtic in the summer.

But he was offered a late lifeline this week by former Rangers boss Gerrard's new club, with the Saudi transfer window closing on Thursday.

However, it's been reported that both clubs left it too late for the deal to be registered with an agreement reached between both teams and the player just 30 minutes before the deadline.
