Celtic star Leigh Griffiths speeding trial hears 'speed gun was incredibly accurate'

A speed gun which caught Celtic star Leigh Griffiths allegedly breaking a 40mph road limit was “incredibly accurate,” a trial was told yesterday.

The striker appeared at Edinburgh Justice of the Peace Court where he continued to deny speeding in a Range Rover Sport.

Griffiths sat in the dock while evidence was given at the trial by a police officer and members of the force’s support staff.

The 28-year-old, of Wallyford, East Lothian, is accused of reaching 54mph on the A90 in Edinburgh last January.

Robert Jefferson, who clocked Griffiths, told the court he carried out checks on the mobile camera unit before and after use.

He said the speed guns were “incredibly accurate and we have complete confidence in them”.

The court was told the registered keeper of the Range Rover Sport was Bournemouth-based Nathan Redmond, who told police Griffiths was driving at the time.

Griffiths replied to a letter to confirm he was the driver, the court was told.

He denied committing any offence and went to trial rather than accept a £100 fine and three points.

The trial was adjourned until May 16.
