Celtic star Leigh Griffith's home damaged after nearby car targeted in firebomb attack

The home of Celtic star Leigh Griffiths has suffered damage after a car parked near the property was targeted in a firebomb attack last night.

Emergency services raced to the house in Bothwell around 11:30pm last night after the alarm was raised, the Daily Record reports.

Police have confirmed that they are treating the fire as suspicious and have issued an appeal for anyone who may have been in the area at the time to contact them.

Initial reports suggested the car belonged to Griffiths, however it is now believed that the car belonged to a nearby property.

Photos from the scene show damage to a nearby property, thought to belong to the footballer.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a car on fire at an address in Bothwell around 11.35pm on Monday, 16 November, 2020.

“The fire, which is being treated as suspicious, was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. An investigation is at an early stage.

“Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area around this time to get in touch if they saw or heard anything suspicious by calling 101, quoting reference 3820 of 16 November 2020."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.35pm on Monday, November 16 to reports of a car fire in Bothwell, South Lanarkshire.
