Celtic star Kris Ajer breaks silence on Virgil van Dijk comparisons as he pinpoints areas to improve

Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer admits he's flattered to be compared to Virgil van Dijk but insists he's nowhere near the level of the Liverpool superstar yet.

The Norwegian has been linked with a big money move away from Celtic in the summer after his agent insists he would be leaving the Hoops.

Manager Neil Lennon stressed that they would decide whether or not Ajer should be sold and his former No.2, Johan Mjallby had previously compared Ajer to Liverpool ace van Dijk, who also played for the Hoops.

Mjallby said: "It is important for Kristoffer that he further improve his leadership skills before moving to another league. At the same time, he can definitely follow in the footsteps of Virgil van Dijk. He has every opportunity."

And Ajer admitted he was delighted with the comparison.

He said: "Of course, it is flattering to be compared to one of the world's best footballers, but I still have a lot to develop in my game. I work hard on this every single day in Scotland.

"There are many areas of my game I need to improve.

"I need to be better at judging whether to tackle to win a ball or stand on my feet, I need to be better at attacking set-pieces and I also need to get more experience."
