Celtic star Jackie McNamara to host charity golf day to help others with brain injuries

Celtic legend Jackie McNamara is hosting a charity golf challenge for those suffering brain injuries.

The Scotland ace was raced to hospital  after he suffered a bleed on the brain at his home in York.

After the incident in February, Scottish football rallied round to support the stricken former defender.

After spending three weeks in care, he was discharged provoking delighted reactions from fans.

Now, his foundation Consilium will work with with charity Headway, who support those who have suffered brain injuries, to host the special event.

The 46-year-old tweeted: "Our first event is a golf day in may partnering with the charity Headway, which aims to improve people’s lives after brain injuries!

"Any support would be really appreciated".

The event will take place at the Dumbarnie Links in Leven, Fife, on May 28.

He has previously thanked all the medics who helped him on twitter.

He wrote: "I would like to personally thank the paramedics, York Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary, who have been phenomenal. If it wasn’t for these services I wouldn’t be here today. It will be a slow and steady process but I’m on the road to recovery.

"I am back home with my family and feel very grateful."
