Celtic star hailed as eight out of ten vs Rangers in past six games as 'unbelievable' moment praised

Andy Halliday has hailed Cameron Carter-Vickers as the big player in the last six Old Firm clashes handing him an eight out of ten every single time.

The Celtic defender once again impressed at Hampden as Ange Postecoglou and Co retained the League Cup with a 2-1 win over Rangers on Sunday. The victory also inflicted a first defeat on Michael Beale since he took over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Kyogo Furuhashi was the hero on the day with a close-range double, but Hearts star Halliday has named his standout from the Old Firm blockbuster.

The ex-Rangers man has also hailed his interception from James Tavernier's low cross in the first period as 'unbelievable' with Malik Tillman waiting at the back post for a tap-in. The result keeps Celtic's hopes of a domestic Treble alive and kicking with a nine point lead at the top of the Premiership and a Scottish Cup quarter-final against Halliday and Hearts on the horizon.

Speaking on Open Goal, he said: "Genuinely in the last five or six Old Firm's, Cameron Carter-Vickers has been an eight out of ten. Every one of them.

"So much stuff goes unnoticed I think. Every time something needs defended in these game it is always him. That [Antonio] Colak one when it falls, he is touch tight and blocks. The one you are talking about is unbelievable [James Tavernier's low cross into the box].

"[Malik] Tillman has a tap-in at the back post. He is already marking [Fashion] Sakala and how many times do you see a defender divert that in their own goal?

"The fact he has managed to get enough contact to get that past the post. That is a tap-in for Tillman. Brilliant defending."
