Celtic midfielder David Turnbull has been crowned the Scottish Premiership player of the month for December.
And the Wishaw native hopes he can now force his way into Steve Clarke's Scotland squad for the European Championships this summer after making a big impression with the Hoops.
The 21-year-old joined Neil Lennon's men in August in a £3million move from his local side Motherwell and he has steadily improved as the months have gone by, culminating in him netting three goals in December during the wins over Ross County, Hamilton and Dundee United.
Upon receiving the award, Turnbull said: "I came into the team in early December and I’ve just tried not to look back since.
"I’ve played well, enjoyed my football and hopefully I continue that.
“I want to get more goals and create more chances for the team.
“I knew I would need to bide my time when I signed for Celtic.
"The job was to train as hard as I could, knowing my chance would come.
"Any sub appearances I got, I had to impress and if I did I was confident I’d eventually nail down a place in the team.”
With a huge summer ahead as Scotland prepare to make their first major tournament appearance for 23 years, asked about his hopes of breaking into the 'A' setup, the U21 star said: "I’m not looking too far ahead and I know that there are a lot of players who haven't had the chance to play at a major tournament.
“But it’s a big incentive for every player who wants to be involved.”
