Celtic star David Turnbull crowned PFA Young Player of the Year

Celtic midfielder David Turnbull has been crowned PFA Scotland's Young Player of the Year after an impressive breakthrough season at Parkhead.

The Wishaw ace joined the Hoops in August, following a £3million move from Motherwell and he has been the standout performer in a disappointing season for Celtic.

Turnbull, who bagged the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year prizes for his club earlier this week, beat Rangers kid Nathan Patterson, Hibs' Josh Doig and St Johnstone's Ali McCann to the gong.

This season Turnbull has netted eight goals and provided seven assists across all competitions, making 39 appearances in total across both clubs he played for this term.

The Motherwell academy graduate also grabbed one goal for the Fir Park side before his big money move.

Meanwhile, Rangers are celebrating an awards double after skipper James Tavernier won the PFA Player of the Year and boss Steven Gerrard won manager of the year, pipping St Johnstone's Callum Davidson to the prize.
