Celtic star confirms Motherwell transfer as Steelmen land latest winter signing

Motherwell have secured their second signing of the winter with the loan capture of Celtic talent Liam Shaw.

The midfielder joined the Hoops in the summer from English League One side Sheffield Wednesday but has struggled to obtain regular minutes.

In total he's played twice for the senior Celtic team, with his only start coming in December's Europa League match with Bayer Leverkusen.

Shaw will now link up with Graham Alexander's side in the hunt for regular Premiership action.

It's the Steelmen's second signing of the winter after agreeing terms to bring Ross Tierney from League of Ireland side Bohemian to Fir Park last month.

Motherwell's Celtic loanee will have to fight off plenty of competition to cement a place in Alexander's first team plans.

He can call upon Callum Slattery, Liam Donnelly, Sean Goss, Mark O'Hara, Liam Grimshaw, Robbie Crawford and Dean Cornelius in the engine room.

Fellow midfielder Barry Maguire signed a new deal until 2024 this week.

Alexander said: “We’re very happy to bring Liam into the club on loan until the summer. He’s a player that has all the attributes we look for in our midfield.

“He comes into a strong group of players and his addition improves that again.

“He’s motivated and eager to play football and we look forward to working with him.”
