Celtic star caught up in red card row as horror tackle leads to referee blast

A Celtic player escaped a red card despite a horror tackle during her side's 3-0 win over Motherwell in the SWPL.

Sarah Teegarden was shown just a yellow card despite the challenge on Motherwell's Kaela McDonald-Nguah in Sunday's top flight clash.

The challenge saw Teegarden connect with McDonald-Nguah's knee with her studs as the Motherwell star controlled the ball during the first half.

A yellow card was all that was produced for the incident as McDonald-Nguah escaped serious injury and was able to keep playing.

But the incident was shared on social media by one of her Motherwell team-mates with the caption: “Apparently this is only a yellow card these days.”

McDonald-Nguah also shared the clip on social media and added: "Just want to say thanks for the messages and that I’m all good.

“Not much can be done about it now but I hope similar challenges in any game will be punished. Don’t want to see anyone hurt at the end of the day.”

Celtic currently sit second in the SWPL1 table, five points behind league leaders Glasgow City.

They’re one point ahead of Rangers in third after Fran Alonso’s side beat the Ibrox outfit 1-0 at Celtic Park last month.
