Celtic squad revealed as Callum McGregor curveball finally offers a beacon of hope

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou threw a curveball as he discussed his stars fit to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

New striker Giorgos Giakoumakis is still yet to make his debut after signing nearly a month ago while Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor have had little setbacks in recent weeks.

But Postecoglou sounded upbeat as he changed tack and insisted captain McGregor will play if the player himself gives the thumbs-up. Given the Hoops ironman's exemplary fitness, could that be more likely than not?

On the crucial midfielder, he said: "He’s an experienced guy, he knows his body better than anyone else. But he is important to us so we don’t want to just rush him in there.

"If he feels comfortable, I will have a discussion with him and then we will make a decision from there."

Postecoglou also revealed there's a possibility Kyogo and Giakoumakis could be involved in some capacity - but neither are likely to start.

Elsewhere, Greg Taylor remains out and on the opposite side Josip Juranovic joins him on the sidelines.

That means Anthony Ralston will start at right-back again while Postecoglou has a decision to make on the left with Adam Montgomery, Liam Scales and Boli Bolingoli his three options.

He's tried the former and the latter with mixed results and with Scales making his Celtic debut last week off the bench against Raith Rovers he should be up to speed to duel with Karim Bellarabi on the wing.

Christopher Jullien and James Forrest are both expected to return in October but it's too early for a comeback just yet.
