Celtic skipper Scott Brown paid the ultimate compliment by Graeme Shinnie

Graeme Shinnie has named Celtic skipper Scott Brown as the best player he's ever faced.

The former Aberdeen captain enjoyed some fierce midfield battles against his Hoops counterpart down the years and admits he relished every minute.

Shinnie sealed a move to Derby County at the end of the season but has linked up with Steve Clarke's Scotland squad for Euro 2020 qualifiers against Cyprus and Belgium.

He sat down with Kenny McLean for a Q&A session on Twitter and his former Dons team-mate wasted no time putting him on the spot.

Asked who was the best opponent he has come up against, Shinnie replied: "I always liked to play against Scott Brown in the middle.

"Good games, games that I enjoyed. Similar kind of players.

"Both liked to battle, both left it all out on the pitch so always a game I enjoyed."

Meanwhile, Kristoffer Ajer has dismissed suggestions from Norway boss Lars Lagerback that he would improve by leaving Celtic.

The centre-back enjoyed a stellar season at the heart of the Hoops' defence and insists he couldn't be happier in Glasgow.

Lagerback believes the 21-year-old's development would be accelerated by leaving Scotland, but Ajer isn't convinced.

He said: "I have a three-year deal at Celtic and I am one of the world's biggest clubs. I love to play there.

"That's the only thing I am focusing on.

"It's a really exciting time. Neil Lennon has come in and done a very good job. We won the Treble.

"It's fantastic to be in Glasgow. I am looking forward to next season.

"The past six months have undoubtedly been the best in my career. I have played all the matches and performed well with the rest of the team. It's been really good."
