Celtic set to land Shane Duffy as Republic of Ireland star to join boyhood heroes

Republic of Ireland centre-back Shane Duffy is on the verge of sealing a move from Brighton to Celtic.

The Derry native was wanted by Premier League sides West Brom and West Ham but Record Sport reports that the Glasgow giants are on the verge of sealing a deal.

Duffy has made clear he wants to move to Glasgow and is set to iron out the final details on a one-year loan deal.

It's thought Celtic will pay a £2million fee to take the 28-year-old on loan, and will also take on a significant chunk of his wages.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed that new signings are in the pipeline.

Asked if there will be new arrivals he said: "I think so, yeah.

"I don't know how many but hopefully there will be one or two new faces coming in."

Celtic have also been linked with Omar Colley of Sampdoria but look to be on the verge of a deal for their top priority.

Duffy, meanwhile, has been travelling 'in a bubble' with the Ireland team as they prepare for Nations League clashes with Bulgaria and Finland in the coming days.

Players secured special Government dispensation to avoid Covid-19 quarantine on their arrival into Dublin from England yesterday.

And it will be the same when the squad returns from Thursday’s clash with Bulgaria in Sofia.
