Celtic sent 'top 10 in the world' warning as Lille star backed for Europa League breakthrough

Lille star Jonathan David just needs a goal to set him off and running, his agent assures, with the £25million man looking to break his duck against Celtic on Thursday.

The Ligue 1 side sold Victor Osimhen to Napoli over the summer for a club record fee, and made a move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

Their ideal replacement though was always Gent striker David and he joined in a big money move in August.

The Canadian is yet to get off the mark for his new club though, and was dropped for the draw with Nice on Sunday.

The man who took him to Lille isn't concerned though and believes if his client can break his duck against Celtic in the Europa League there will be no stopping him.

Nick Mavromaras said: "Right now Jonathan just wants to score so badly.

"That just means that he's lost some of his lucidity in the penalty box.

"We just tell him to stay calm and not get carried away with the media attention he's receiving.

"Having said that I don't think it's a bad thing he's receiving all this attention at the age of 20.

"It was a big transfer and his game is coming under scrutiny, but I have no doubt that living through this criticism will serve him well in the future.

"I'm confident that one day Jonathan will be among the top 10 in the world."
