Celtic sent Jonathan David warning as misfiring Lille striker tipped to become one of world's best

Lille's £27 million misfiring striker Jonathan David will soon break his goalscoring duck, according to his agent in an ominous prediction ahead of Celtic's visit to France on Thursday night.

Neil Lennon's men face Lille at their Stade Pierre Mauroy home in the Europa League group stage second round of fixtures, with the Hoops desperate to get back on track.

Canadian striker David - who is Lille's record buy - has been criticised in France after failing to score in nine appearances for Lille and he was even dropped for their weekend draw with Nice.

He's been defended by Lille boss Christophe Galtier and the player's agent, Nick Mavromaras, reckons it's a matter of time before he proves his worth.

He said: "Jonathan wants to score so badly, he's just waiting for that goal.

"But knowing him very well, he will remain calm and not listen to the noise surrounding him at the moment.

"The criticism he's receiving just now will actually help him long-term and make him stronger. People seem to forget he's only 20 years old.

"I remain extremely confident Jonathan will not only score goals, but he will also comfortably be one of the top ten strikers in the world very soon.

"He could have gone to other clubs who offered him more money in the summer, but wouldn't have given him the playing time he needs.

"Lille believes in him, they are a good club and he will soon show what he can do."
