Former Brentford star Henrik Dalsgaard fired out a warning to Celtic that he has his sights set on a Champions League place after snubbing the chance to play in the Premier League.
The Dane helped the Bees reach England’s top flight for the first time in their history but left after their Wembley play-off final win over Swansea to join FC Midtjylland.
And the 31-year-old right back revealed his motivation for the move was to earn a crack at the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition.
If he wants to achieve that aim then Dalsgaard must find a way past Ange Postecoglou’s Hoops side as they prepare to meet in this month’s qualifier.
FC Midtjylland reached the Champions League group stage for the first time last season and were in a group with Liverpool, Atalanta and Ajax.
The former Zulte Waregem man could have stayed in west London with Brentford facing Arsenal in a mouthwatering historic first game in England’s top flight.
Dalsgaard admitted: "My aim is to play in the group stages of the Champions League and that was a big appeal to come here.
"I could easily have stayed at Brentford, but the ambitions of this club appealed to me.
"At this club, we also have to win the title or at least compete for it. We have to be up there.
"So the ambitions have been shown at the club and that has really motivated me.
"I think I have developed a lot at Brentford, both as a player and as a person. But I will soon be 32 and I wanted to be a part of something here.
"Midtjylland made it clear what they want to do this season and I can't wait to get started."
