Celtic see shock transfer offer 'rejected' for Scotland cap

Celtic have had a surprise bid for Andy Irving rejected by West Ham United, according to a report.

Reports down south have emerged stating the Hammers would be willing to sell the Scotland midfielder for £3.5m.

And Hammers News claims the Hoops have made an offer to sign the former Hearts man.

However, it's said this initial approach has been rejected.

The report suggests the opening offer was £1.75m up front, plus £500k in add-ons.

The 25-year-old made 11 appearances for the London-based club last season under Graham Potter.

The Scottish Premiership champions are well stocked in the midfield area of the pitch, with Callum McGregorReo Hatate, Benji Nygren, Arne Engels, Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo all vying for the three spots in the team.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Hoops will improve their offer for Irving, who was handed his Scotland debut by Steve Clarke.

Irving was signed by West Ham for around £1.5m from SK Austria Klagenfurt.
