Celtic seal deal for Motherwell star David Turnbull

Motherwell star David Turnbull has signed for Scottish champions Celtic.

The 21-year-old has agreed a four-year deal, which will earn his club a record £3million.

It was revealed on Monday morning that the deal was likely to be done this week.

Turnbull was on the verge of signing a four-year deal at Parkhead in June of last year when a knee injury was picked up during his medical.

The midfielder went through surgery but has successfully returned to the Motherwell first team, scoring in a 2-2 draw with Livingston on August 12.

Turnbull said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be here, especially after what happened last year, and I'm ready to hit the ground running."

Chairman Jim McMahon told the club's website: "The money we receive for David wil allow us in part to build up the strategic reserve, which helps secure and sustain us through such difficult and uncertain times.

"This is an opportunity to invest in the infrastructure.

"We wish David every success in the future. He is a local boy who has supported this club all of his life and has given us many memorable moments on the pitch.

"As a fan, I regret to see him leave Fir Park, but the club can take pride knowing we have played a part in helping develop this exceptionally talented footballer and young man, whose legacy will endure for many years."

Motherwell travel to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.
