Celtic's transfer policy vindicated as figures reveal 'loyalty' of players at Premiership clubs

Celtic have the most 'loyal' players in Scotland according to a recent study.

Ticketgum.com has analysed data from the CIES Football Observatory to see how long players stay at their clubs in the Scottish Premiership and across Europe.

And Celtic are top of the list with players spending 42.1 months, on average, at Parkhead.

Hibs come in at second on 39.4 months as Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Kilmarnock and Ross County make up the top six.

Rangers are ranked seventh with players remaining at Ibrox for 17.5 months ahead of Hamilton, Livingston, Motherwell and Hearts.

St Mirren are bottom of the pile with their players staying in Paisley for just over a year, 13.1 months.

The statistics are based on players who have been in the club's first team squad from July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.

It's not surprising the reigning Premiership champions are ahead of the rest with Peter Lawwell keeping a hold of their core players that have steered them to eight titles in a row and a treble Treble.

It's also not equally shocking to find the Buddies rock bottom as their recent turnover of managers has led to a fluctuating squad.

Oran Kearney was tasked last season with getting rid of players from Alan Stubbs' disastrous spell and Jim Goodwin is still dealing with the aftermath.

In the same vein, the influx of Hearts players under Craig Levein in recent seasons and Daniel Stendel's Tynecastle clear out is why the Jambos find themselves second from bottom.

Scotland have the 12th most 'loyal' players in Europe as England are top of the tree.

Real Madrid are the highest club in Europe with players enjoying a spell at the Bernabeu for 66.8 months.
