Celtic's 'perfect' summer transfer as former Tottenham star names Vasilis Barkas successor

Paul Robinson reckons Aston Villa keeper Tom Heaton would be the 'perfect' signing for Celtic this summer.

The Parkhead side are expected to part ways with a number of first team players in the upcoming transfer window with Neil Lennon's successor still to be named.

One area the Hoops could look to strengthen is in between the sticks after Vasilis Barkas' nightmare debut season following his move from AEK Athens.

Reports claim the Greek international's stay in Glasgow could be short lived, meaning Celtic would have to find a new no.1.

And former Spurs goalie believes Villa keeper Heaton is an ideal candidate who has been frozen out the side with Emi Martinez starring after his move from Arsenal.

He told Football Insider: "Whoever comes in at Celtic, one of their first tasks will be to sign a new number one.

"Heaton is a possibility. Logistically, would he be willing to move to Glasgow? I'm not sure. He might be very settled with his family.

"It would be a huge opportunity for him to play at one of the biggest European clubs though. Could he turn that opportunity down?

"It would be a great signing for Celtic. Heaton would be a great signing for any club. He is a top-class, reliable goalkeeper who would be perfect for Celtic next season."
