Celtic are set to be crowned champions after an emergency SPFL board meeting on Monday morning.
Record Sport understands the conference call is scheduled to begin at 10am with discussions about ending the current top flight campaign the only topic on the agenda.
That would also cement the relegation of Hearts although owner Ann Budge now hopes to drive through her own reconstruction proposals which could yet keep her club in next season’s Premiership - while also sparing Partick Thistle and Stranraer form dropping down the divisions.
But, as of Sunday night, Budge’s plan had not yet been submitted for discussions at the Hampden showdown.
As we revealed last week, all 12 top flight clubs have given an undertaking not to object to the shutters being pulled down on season 2019/20 - which means chief executive Neil Doncaster can finally press the button on with the controversial coronavirus crisis plan which was voted through on Good Friday.
That will finally allow around £7.5million of prize money to be unlocked and distributed among the top 12 at a time when Scotland’s clubs are in desperate need of cash.
But, while Budge has conceded that the season cannot be re-started and played to a finish over the summer, she remains furiously opposed to the decision to send her club down.
She has refused to rule out taking legal action and raising an interdict which would put a freeze on those payments.
But a source said: “There is a lot of sympathy for the situation Hearts find themselves in. There’s also a willingness to find a solution in terms of reconstruction or some sort of compensation package if Hearts do have to go down to the Championship.
“That’s why it seems unlikely that they will chose to go down a legal route at this stage.”
