Celtic's Leigh Griffiths narrowly avoids driving ban after speeding charge

Celtic star Leigh Griffiths narrowly avoided a driving ban after admitting a speeding charge at court today.

Griffiths, 30, was caught by police in his Audi 4x4 vehicle doing 43 miles per hour in a 30 area in Glasgow’s Carntyne.

He pled guilty by letter at Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace court to speeding on Provan Road in May this year.

The hearing was told Griffiths, of Bothwell, South Lanarkshire, already had six penalty points on his licence.

Justice of the Peace Thomas Rowatt reduced Griffiths penalty from six points to four points due to his plea - missing the ban limit of 12 points.

Mr Rowatt said: "He pled guilty at the earliest opportunity."

The Scotland international was also fined £700 reduced from £1000.

Prosecutor Oliver Davidson Richards earlier stated: “The vehicle was going at 43 miles per hour in a 30 zone.

“The traffic conditions were light at the time and when cautioned and charged he gave no reply.”
