Luckless Craig Bryson's impending departure from Pittodrie will leave Aberdeen fans wondering what might have been.
The midfielder looked a ready-made replacement for Graeme Shinnie following the former skipper's switch to Derby County in 2019.
But Bryson 's appearances in a red shirt have been few and far between, thanks to a spate of injury issues.
Talks are now under way over ending the 33-year-old's contract with both parties seemingly keen to draw a line and move on.

Barton declared he'd be the best player in the country after Mark Warburton struck a deal to bring him to Ibrox in 2016, words that certainly did not ring true in the ensuing weeks.
Nutmegged by Ali Crawford, clattered by Greg Taylor and scrapping with Andy Halliday were just three snapshots of the midfielder's three months north of the border.
He left Rangers following a bust-up with Warburton that proved to be the final straw.
Glenn Whelan
Whelan's ill-fated spell summed up Hearts' miserable 2019/20 campaign.
The vastly experienced Irishman's summer signing was described as somewhat of a coup but he abruptly sidelined by new boss Daniel Stendel's arrival.
The situation quickly turned sour and Whelan faced accusations over an alleged lack of application and Stendel publicly questioning his leadership abilities.
Whelan was released in January 2020 and promptly went on live radio to brand Hearts "amateurish" in their handling of the affair, strenuously denying he'd downed tools.
Charly Musonda
Musonda looked a genuinely exciting signing for Celtic even without Brendan Rodgers suggesting the club had pipped Real Madrid to get him on-loan.
The Belgian was highly-rated at Chelsea and had already spent time in La Liga with Real Betis.
Even when he struggled to get in Rodgers' team for weeks on end there was still an assumption he'd come good eventually.
That expected emergence failed to materialise and he was eventually sent back to Stamford Bridge early.
One dazzling moment of magic against Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League promised so much but that proved to be Musonda's only Parkhead highlight.
Bruno Alves
The legendary Portuguese centre-back declared he was coming to stop Celtic's domestic dominance after being unveiled at the marquee signing of Pedro Caixinha's disastrous tenure.
Alves struggled for fitness throughout his spell at Ibrox and flitted in and out of the side over an underwhelming campaign.
The centre-back was 35 when he arrived and while his quality was evident when he did play, appearances were too few and far between to consider him a success.
Alves has since gone on to enjoy somewhat of a renaissance in Serie A, showing he can still do it a high level, provided he stays fit.
Eboue Kouassi
The Ivorian wasn't a big name by any means but Celtic forked out £3million on a player Rodgers was quick to label the potential successor to Scott Brown.
Such a lofty appraisal immediately heaped expectation on the midfielder but, three years later, Celtic are still waiting on Brown's heir apparent.
Kouassi's Parkhead career was not helped by a serious knee injury but, even when fit, at no point did look like a long-term solution in the middle of the park.

James Wilson
Wilson was the jewel in Manchester United's academy just a few short years before pitching up at Pittodrie to try and kickstart his career.
