Celtic's David Turnbull makes full Scotland debut in Netherlands warm-up clash

Celtic midfielder David Turnbull has been rewarded for his excellent season by starting tonight's Euro 2020 warm-up clash against the Netherlands.

The Hoops play-maker bagged last season's Scottish Young Player of the Year award and was one of his club's few bright spots in an otherwise disastrous campaign.

But the 21-year-old wasn't always assured a place in Steve Clarke 's squad to go to this summer's European Championships, and was only confirmed in the 26-man group following injuries to Oli McBurnie and Kenny McLean.

He'll win his first senior cap this evening in what looks to be a No10 role, just off striker Lyndon Dykes, and he'll be joined in the starting XI by fellow Celtic team-mates Ryan Christie, James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Jack Hendry.

It's been a tumultuous build-up for Clarke and his players with John McGinn, David Marshall, Grant Hanley, Nathan Patterson, Che Adams and Stephen O’Donnell forced to stay at the country's training base in Spain after John Fleck tested positive for Coronavirus on Tuesday.
