Celtic running the rule over former Newcastle United striker wanted by Bristol City and Brentford

Celtic have reportedly run the rule over Ivan Toney.

The Peterborough United star has been in sensational form this season, leading to interest from Bristol City.

Posh are demanding big money for their striker and are confident that they will be able to keep a hold of him, but the Robins have not been dissuaded in their attempts to secure the 23-year-old.

There is plenty of competition for former Newcastle United striker Toney, however.

City's Championship rivals Brentford are said to be keen on the player, who has netted 20 goals in 34 appearances this season.

There is also thought to be Premier League interest in the player.

Yet the Daily Record now report that there is interest from north of the border in the form of Celtic.

The Hoops have watched Toney twice in the last couple of weeks - suggesting they are not content with having already signed striker Patryk Klimala this month.

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry is adamant the player will not be sold this month.

He said: "Bristol City have shown interest in Ivan and we do have a good relationship with them, but there is zero chance of Ivan going anywhere in January.

"I have had eight Championship clubs ask about Ivan as well as a couple from the Premier League, but my answer is always the same. There is not enough money in this transfer window to even tempt us into talking about selling Ivan Toney."
