Celtic respond to Scottish Government as club say executive 'approved' Dubai trip

Celtic have responded to the Scottish Government's statement questioning the club's mid-season trip to Dubai.

The Government said on Monday evening they expect the SFA to "look into" the training camp in the Emirati city, on the same day First Minister Nicola Sturgeon introduced new national lockdown measures.

The guidance is now for people to stay at home and only make essential journeys but professional sports teams have been granted special travel dispensation - a privilege the Government said could be revoked if clubs are found to "abuse" it.

However the Parkhead club have now responded through a statement of their own, insisting the Government and the SPFL and SFA's Joint Response Group signed off on the trip back in November.

Celtic also highlight that Neil Lennon and his team flew out to Dubai on Saturday, days before Sturgeon's bombshell announcement.

The statement read: "The training camp was arranged a number of months ago & approved by all relevant footballing authorities & @scotgov through the Joint Response Group on 12th November 2020.

"The team travelled prior to any new lockdown being in place, to a location exempt from travel restrictions. The camp, the same one as we have undertaken for a number of years has been fully risk assessed.

"If the club had not received Scottish Government approval then we would not have travelled."
