Celtic 'request' 20k fans as Dominic McKay uses Hampden crowd for Nicola Sturgeon plea

Celtic have made a request to get 20,000 supporters into the ground for next week’s Champions League opener.

The Hoops take on Midtjylland at Celtic Park and at present they will be allowed a minimum of 2000 fans after Nicola Sturgeon announced a move to Level 0.

But new Celtic chief executive Dominic McKay immediately submitting an application to get 20,000 inside the ground.

The Daily Record report that McKay is hoping that the 12,500 fans that were allowed inside Hampden for Euros games lsat month will help his request.

At the time, only 500 fans were allowed under government rules but special requests allowed that to be raised for Scotland’s game against Czech Republic and Croatia, as well as the match between those two sides.

It’s believed Celtic are still waiting on an answer but hope their request will be granted to give Ange Postecoglou’s men plenty of backing in their crunch clash.

Celtic haven’t had fans inside the ground since a 5-0 thumping of St Mirren back in March 2020.

That was their last home game before Covid-19 shut football down during the initial wave of the pandemic.

The entirety of last season was played behind closed doors and they are desperate to get their fans back in the ground.
