Celtic reject transfer offer for star as top European league comes calling after Parkhead promise

Coatbridge's Stephen Welsh is wanted abroad as Serie A side Udinese have their interest in the defender rebuffed by Celtic.

The Italian club enquired about an initial loan deal with an option to buy but Celtic are believed to be keen on keeping him, according to Sky Sports.

Welsh established himself as a senior Hoops player last season after a loan at Morton. As such, his current club have made it clear they are not willing to discuss his exit.

He signed a new four-year deal at the club in April 2021.

Parkhead boss Ange Postecoglou is keen for the Coatbridge defender to stay, but he is also wanting to reduce the size of his squad.

Motherwell signed Liam Shaw on loan this week while Celtic are likely to listen to offers for other players.

21-year-old Welsh has played 19 games so far this season.
