Celtic receive Champions League boost as fearful Reykjavik boss rues 2 major setbacks

Reykjavik boss Runar Kristinsson admits his side will be rusty when they play Celtic this week after seeing two of his stars suffer injuries ahead of the Champions League clash.

The Icelandic league season resumed after an enforced three-week break after a coronavirus spike put their league on hold. But KR suffered a 2-1 defeat to FH Hafnarfjaroar to dent their title hopes in their last game ahead of their trip to Glasgow to face Neil Lennon 's side.

Their task at Parkhead got tougher after injuries to key players Kristinn Jonsson and Kristjan Floka Finnbogason, who both limped off.

And Kristinsson admitted his side are not at their best ahead of the one-off tie, with training restrictions put in place too by the Icelandic Government.

He said: "You could see we were not sharp, we lacked any kind of rhythm and that's why it was extremely important to get a game under our belts before we play Celtic.

"They've made it very difficult to get into shape too with the regulations about training. There is no contact allowed and there is also a two metre rule, so we are not training properly either.

"Also, it's very disappointing to lose two players before such a big game. We will have to assess both players to see if they are okay.

"We still have players in the squad who can fill in, but it's obviously not ideal after such a long break."
