Celtic put U18 squad on furlough as club are slammed for Dubai trip by player's family

Celtic have placed their entire U18 squad on furlough, according to a report.

And one family member of the team have hit out at Celtic for doing it despite them 'squandering' money on their trip to Dubai.

The Hoops have been under-fire since flying out for a warm-weather camp at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic that is forcing people to miss out on a host of things.

And now their decision to furlough U18 players has led to even angrier reactions from supporters with the club being slammed for the decision.

The Daily Mail report that Darren O'Dea informed the players of the decision earlier this week and one family member said: "People are struggling to understand why Celtic would go to Dubai during a pandemic and squander all that money on warm-weather training and then put young boys earning a fraction of the sum of the first-team players on the Government scheme.

"That doesn't seem right."

It's continued a week of misery for the Hoops after their return to Scotland began with a positive test for Christopher Jullien.

Many wondered why Jullien was even on the trip after being ruled out for three to four months with a serious knee injury.

It was then compounded by the news 13 players and three members of staff - including manager Neil Lennon - were forced into self-isolation.

That happened on Monday, just before the club dropped more points in the title race in a 1-1 draw with Hibs.
