Celtic put restart plans in place as Neil Lennon's squad given deadline to return

Celtic have ordered all their foreign players to return to Scotland no later than next week to begin preparations for Scottish football’s restart.

Record Sport understands eight of the current first team squad have returned to their respective homelands to stay with their families while the world has been placed on a coronavirus lockdown.

But they have now been told to make travel plans to get back to Glasgow over the coming days and place themselves in self isolation for a fortnight.

Celtic have insisted throughout the Covid-19 crisis that they wish for the current campaign to be played to a finish.

There is no indication as yet that it will be possible for season 2019/20 to get back up and running over the summer – with the SPFL board fearing next season might not start until September or even October.

But a Parkhead source said: ”The players who have returned home will be back in Scotland before the end of next week. There are issues to work through before the game starts back but it’s vital Neil Lennon’s squad is ready.”
