Celtic put new faces front and centre as Mohamed Elyounoussi gears up for debut

There was a rather unfamiliar feel around Lennoxtown on Friday.

After a busy end to the transfer window, the training pitch was flooded with new faces ahead of domestic football's return.

The transfer window closed a fortnight ago but supporters have been made to wait before catching a glimpse of the new boys in Celtic colours - the international break forever finding ways to exasperate.

But we're just under 24 hours away from having the Premiership back in our lives and Neil Lennon's league leaders will recommence with a trip to Hamilton Accies.

With a Europa League trip to Rennes beckoning next week, Lennon may use the trip to Lanarkshire to bed in some fresh faces.

The arrival of Mohamed Elyounoussi flew relatively under the radar in the build up to the Old Firm derby but, on paper, the Norwegian is the most exciting acquisition.

Signed on a season-long loan deal from Southampton, the former Malmo winger terrorised Celtic in the Europa League a few years back.

Saints forked out £16million to sign him in 2018 and although it hasn't yet worked out for the 25-year-old, that's a considerable sum of cash.

It also makes Elyounoussi one of the most expensive footballers ever to play in the Scottish top flight.

He could debut against Accies on Saturday, as could Greg Taylor and Jeremie Frimpong.

Those two deadline day buys, coupled with the earlier arrival of Moritz Baeur, have bolstered full-back areas that looked threadbare not too long ago.

All three plus Elyounoussi were among the first-team squad who trained on Friday.

Also involved was Tom Rogic as he approaches a long awaited return.

The Aussie has had more than his share of injury problems over the last few months and hasn't featured in any capacity in 2018/19, pre-season included.

That could change in Hamilton tomorrow, although he faces stern competition to retake his place at number 10.

Ryan Christie continues to go from strength to strength in that role and he was among the Scotland contingent back amongst it.

James Forrest and Callum McGregor were also involved in the defeats to Russia and Belgium but all three appear to have come through the break unscathed.
