Celtic protesters sent firm warning as large police presence protects Parkhead ring of steel

A significant police presence have arrived at Parkhead to counter any potential protests from Celtic fans ahead of their crunch clash with St Johnstone.

Supporters remain unhappy with the club on and off the park with supporters expected to head to the stadium today.

The Green Brigade have railed against Peter Lawwell, Dermot Desmond and manager Neil Lennon and have called for a shake-up.

But Police Scotland are determined to avoid any of the unsavoury scenes that followed last weekend's Betfred Cup exit at the hands of Ross County.

It comes after three officers suffered minor injuries and Celtic players and club personnel were led away by a police escort.

And extra steps have been implemented a with a steel ring fence across the Celtic Way as a deterrent to keep fed-up fans at a distance.

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland said: “We are aware of a proposed demonstration outside  Celtic Park  on Sunday and would urge people to find alternative ways to protest, such as online, to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“The Scottish Government regulations are quite clear that these types of protest are prohibited in areas under level four restrictions.
