Celtic praise fan decision as Peter Lawwell makes 'as soon as possible' promise to supporters

Celtic chief Peter Lawwell has revealed his delight at the Scottish Government’s decision to allow fans back to games.

Supporters will be allowed into stadia - following social distancing guidelines - in September.

Test events could be allowed before that and Celtic have been pushing for some of those to take place at Parkhead.

And Lawwell admits he’s thrilled that they can be back in September but has promised to continue to working hard to getting fans in safely and as soon as possible.

The club released a statement to say they welcomed the announcement with Lawwell then adding:  “Celtic are delighted with this positive development and are very appreciative that the Government has taken this important step.

"We would like to thank the Scottish Government, the SFA/SPFL Joint Response Group and everyone at the club who have collaborated and worked so hard over these past few difficult months.

"It is our intention to get as many supporters as we can back into Celtic Park as soon as we can, within the guidance. However, the safety and security of our supporters is always our top priority, and we will communicate more on this as soon as possible.”

The Hoops have home games against Livingston and Hibs in the two match days that immediately follow September 14.

That could allow some to be in the stadium, with hopes that stadiums could even be full by the time the first derby of the season takes place in October.
