Celtic players get Covid self isolation warning from professor after 'astonishing' Dubai trip

Scottish public health professor Dr Linda Bauld is “confident” that close contacts of the Celtic player that tested positive for Covid will have to self isolate.

And she finds it “astonishing” that they even went to Dubai in the first place.

The club confirmed today that one member of their squad had coronavirus after their controversial winter training camp in Dubai.

The club came in for heavy criticism after jetting off to the Middle East when many felt it wasn’t a necessary trip, even though it was legal.

Neil Lennon explained that the club went through proper channels when organising the camp.

However, it’s proved costly with one player returning a positive result for the virus l24 hours before their Scottish Premiership clash with Hibs.

Celtic revealed that none of their other players nor any of the coaching staff tested positive.

However, given they were operating within a bubble in Dubai during the incubation period and all traveled home together in close proximity on the same flight, Dr Bauld would expect any close contacts to self isolate as per Government regulations.

She tweeted: “I'd be very confident that any contacts including while travelling will be required to self-isolate, using existing definitions of a close contact.

“Plus the club needs to ensure that the player is isolating. That will protect others. Quite astonishing that they went to Dubai.”
